Ultimate Hair Mask

Ultimate Hair Mask

Last night I tried out a natural DIY hair mask. This mask contained the ultimate ingredients for super healthy hair:

Eggs:

Eggs are rich in protein, the high amount of protein from the raw egg helps rebuild your hair follicles and heal split ends. Eggs are also said to help your hair grow, as well as add shine, thicken, and strengthen your hair.

Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil has numerous benefits for your hair, ranging from: hair growth, softening, shine, and helping with split ends. Coconut oil helps seal in moisturizer in your hair, provides natural nutrients which help soften your hair. Coconut oil contains vitamin K, vitamin E, and iron which helps eliminate dandruff as well as helping your hair growth.

Olive Oil:

Olive oil is a natural conditioner for the hair and promotes scalp health. Olive oil has plenty of antioxidants which are essential to keeping the skin of your scalp in healthy shape. Olive oil can help your hair get shiny and very soft. Olive oil massages can improve the blood circulation in your scalp. This increased blood flow can stimulate the follicles, which then produce thicker strands.

Ultimate Hair Mask

The combination of eggs, coconut oil, and olive oil give your hair the best possible combination for having your healthiest hair.  My results were incredible, my hair was incredibly soft, shiny, voluminous, and it shockingly felt thicker (after one use). I absolutely LOVED this hair mask, and will continue to use this method when I want the ultimate hair mask treatment for my hair.

Ingredients:

-  1-2 raw eggs (depending on how much protein you want in your hair/the length of your hair)
-   1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil (depends on the length of your hair)
-   1-2 tablespoon of olive oil  (depends on the length of your hair)

Directions:

– Warm up the coconut oil for about 15-20 seconds (Allow it too cool for about 1-2 minutes)

– Combine the coconut oil, eggs, and olive oil together (Whisk it all together until it is very smooth)

– Apply the mask everywhere, with a focus on your ends and roots

-After application, apply a bag (grocery bag) on your hair to seal in the mask/create heat

-Leave the mask in your hair for a minimum of one hour

-Wash out with lukewarm to cool water (hot water can potentially cook the raw egg *gross*)

-Shampoo and condition afterwards

-Enjoy your beautiful hair !

I would love to know if you guys like it, and what your thoughts are after you try out this amazing & natural DIY hair mask!

5 Easy DIY Hair Mask Recipes

5 Easy DIY Hair Mask Recipes

Hair need a little TLC? I have five recipes for DIY hair masks to share today! I’ve tried each of these masks myself and they worked really well to deep condition my hair. The best part is how cheap they are to make. On top of that, they use ingredients you might already have in your kitchen!

5 Easy DIY Hair Mask Recipes

5 DIY Hair Masks

1. Olive oil  + Honey

Recipe:

4 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp honey

Length: 20 min.

This one gave me super shiny and sleek hair. The mixture is very sticky and messy and it’s hard to spread. It smells really good though and the recipe was enough to cover my long, long hair.

This is what it looks like!

2. Avocado + Coconut oil + Honey

Recipe:

- 1 tbsp avocado (mashed)
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp honey

Length: 20 min.

I had to double this recipe for my long hair and I actually could’ve used a little more than that. My hair came out soft, smooth, and shiny.  This mask started dripping on me just after 10 min. I had to keep a towel around my shoulders and neck to catch the drips. I also had to rinse it out a couple of times because of the chunks.  Still a great mask!

Guacamole anyone? Somehow, I don’t think this will taste the same….

3. Honey + Apple cider vinegar + Egg

Recipe:

2 tbsp honey
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 eggs

Length: 20 min.

This mask was much thinner than the others. Luckily, it wasn’t chunky, but it did start to drip almost immediately. It was super wet. This one took some extra rinsing (I’m assuming it was because of the egg).

Looks like I’m about to scramble some eggs!

4. Banana + Honey + Yogurt

Recipe:

- 1 banana
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt

Length: 1 hr

This one was enough for all of my hair and then some! If you have shorter hair, you could probably cut this recipe in half. It felt like having oatmeal on my head and it smelled really good.  I only left it on for 30 min because I was already dripping within 15 minutes.  By the 30-minute mark, I was done! This mask was pretty messy as well as sticky. I had to use a fine-tooth comb to get the chunks of banana out. It was all worth it though because in the end, I had nice, shiny hair.

Here’s what this mixture looks like.

5. Coconut oil

Length: Overnight or as 20 min. mask

This one is so simple and probably the least messy of the bunch. I’ve done this one a few times. At night, I just apply coconut oil all over my hair, clip it up and go to bed. Then, I wash it out in the morning. It doesn’t quite give me the results that the others do, but it still makes my hair look and feel nice.

I loved using these masks and seeing how great they made my hair look. Best of all, they’re cheap to make and if you don’t already have the ingredients, they’re easy to find. I think I’ll be using at least one a week.

DIY Sea Salt Texturizing Hair Spray

DIY Sea Salt Texturizing Hair Spray

Oh my goodness, sorry for the radio silence on the DIY side of the blog lately! Busy season with lots of do-it-yourself cooking, versus projects.  But today I’m back with a new and super-easy “recipe” that I’m currently obsessed with — DIY sea salt spray!

I will admit that I am totally a hair stylist’s customer-come-true when it comes to buying hair products.  I never really seek them out on my own.  But when my stylist works her magic and my thin, straight, flat hair suddenly has volume?!? Well, let’s just say that I’ll buy just about any products to try and re-create the look.  One of those, of course, has been my trusty sea salt spray.

Here’s how I made mine:

Begin with 4 basic ingredients:

- 1 cup warm water (for spraying)
- 1 tablespoon sea salt (for texturizing)
- 1-2 teaspoons olive oil or argan oil or coconut oil** (for moisturizing)
- 4-5 drops essential oil (for smelling yummy — use your favorite oil or a mixture)

You’ll also want to have a nice spray bottle ready to go.  I used this glass bottle from Amazon.

A few other optional modifications:

- Dry hair: If your hair is dry and you’d like a little extra moisture, add in an extra teaspoon or two of the oil.
- Oily hair: If your hair is too oily, then I’d go light on the oil and just use 1 teaspoon.
- Curly hair or styled hair: If you want to really “set” or hold a style in place, you can add in a teaspoon or two of hair gel.  (Otherwise, I’ll sometimes just use a bit of regular hair spray after styling my hair.)

** Coconut oil’s melting point is 76 degrees.  So if you store this in a place cooler than that, the coconut oil will solidify a bit.  I’d recommend using olive oil or argan oil if that’s the case.  Or you can also just store the jar on a sunny window sill or warm it up for a few seconds in the microwave before using.

Begin by heating the water until comes to a simmer, and then stirring in the salt until it is completely dissolved.  Whisk in the coconut oil and a few drops of the essential oil.  Then pour it into your bottle and give it a good shake.

Spray it all over your hair while it’s still wet.  Then once you blow it dry and style it…

…get ready for some extra texture!!!

Seriously, the sea salt creates that perfect “beachy” feel that’s perfect for curls, waves, or even just giving your straight look a little extra boost.  Feel free to tinker around with the proportions to find the mix that’s perfect for you.  But otherwise, enjoy this easy (and super affordable!) DIY alternative to the salon prices!

7 Natural Ingredients that will Thicken Your Hair

7 Natural Ingredients that will Thicken Your Hair

One of the only things men seek advice from me for is hair loss or thinning hair. OK, occasionally they want job seeking advice, but MAINLY they all want the same thing: A way to keep their hair forever. One of the biggest beauty problems men face is baldness with approximately 40 percent of men experiencing hair loss by age 35. Whether it's from genetics, poor diet, or inflammation which can be caused by a plethora of factors males can face baldness sooner than women. While it's been ingrained in most women's brains to obsess over preventing aging before it happens, men tend to ignore thinning hair and a decreased hairline until it's too late. Even with all the natural remedies available, science still claims that the only cure for hair loss is a hair transplant.

7 Natural Ingredients that will Thicken Your Hair

1. Jamaican Castor Oil

The oil from this beautiful flower is well known to plump up thinning hair, moisturize hair follicles, and cure bald spots. Get your sweetie (or yourself) to the beauty supply store because this thick oil will keep you looking and (most importantly) feeling young in no time.

2. Rosemary

Rosemary is a great preventative measure for baldness. The many health benefits of rosemary make this herb arguably one of the best at stimulating hair growth. Plus, you don't even have to add an extra step to your hair care routine — just throw a bit of rosemary into your conditioner. Bonus: Rosemary is also known to ward off gray hair. Not that gray hair can't be sexy as hell...

3. Apples

Nature's favorite fall candy contains vitamin B2, plus they have arguably one of the highest antioxidant levels of any fruit. In fact, a recent study found that apples generated new hair growth in 70 percent of men ages 21 through 29. Puree some apples to turn them into a mask, and apply once a week.

4. Coconut Oil

Bad diets are a common reason for hair loss. While heart disease may still be far off in your future, you may find that once-full head of hair starting to feel a little thin. The first rule of healthy, growing hair is treating our scalp with just as much care as we typically treat our face. Coconut oil protects skin from free radicals and repairs damage. Apply a tablespoon of coconut oil before bed time and rinse out in the shower to start getting full locks out of that dire situation.

5. Aloe Vera

According to Medical News Today, over 50 percent of men suffer from pattern baldness while women commonly suffer from hormonal hair loss, such as alopecia. Aloe contains vitamin E which is incredibly nourishing for a sad scalp in need of some moisture, but the polysaccharides and glycoproteins are known to incite hair growth. Aloe can be used in addition to a conditioner or on its own as a hair sealant.

6. Honey

Raw, unprocessed honey contains moisturizing and antimicrobial properties that will inspire even the saddest bald patch into growing new, healthy hair. Since our hair faces several toxins throughout the day that strip our hair of its ability to grow, honey can promote hair growth by planting those nutrients back in your scalp. Add some into your shampoo to counteract the drying effect some cleansers have.

7. Lemongrass

Speaking of antimicrobial agents, lemongrass can strengthen hair follicles while creating a healthy bacteria-free environment for hair growth. Much like your grass isn't going to grow or get any greener on unhealthy soil, the same can be said for significant others' hair loss. Add a few drops of lemongrass to conditioner or coconut oil daily to accelerate serious gross.
